New User Questions

Postby dscovry » Mon Jan 11, 2010 11:53 am

I am a new user and evaluating Listmaker Pro and Toodledo. I am a recent iPhone user, but don't have nimble thumbs like the young folks, so I really like the ability to use the full keyboard on Toodledo. I also really like being able to access from multiple locations. What I don't like (or am having trouble understanding) is the difference between Listmaker parent child relationship and Toodledo's folder and sub-task relationship. While it's great for Listmaker to be able to have multiple parent child nesting, I certainly appears that the single sub-task feature in Toodledo is equivalent to the first level within Listmaker. So I can do what I want in both products (i.e., have a primary "project", with multiple secondary activities and each secontary activity has multiple individual tasks). The problem is that they don't seem to sychronize well. My real objective is to be able to enter the data in Toddledo and them manage/check them off in Listmaker. What am I missing? Can you help?

Listmaker does not support the sub-task feature in Toodledo. When I was designing Listmaker, I didn't like that Toodledo limited you to only one level of nesting, so I implemented my own nesting mechanism for the lists in Listmaker. All lists in Listmaker are synced to Toodledo as folders. Since Toodledo doesn't allow nesting of folders, any nesting will not be visible on Toodledo. That being said, you can still add items to the folders in Toodledo and have them synced to Listmaker for completion.

Another new user here. I thought myself fairly iPhone savvy, but simply cannot cipher the Toodledo sync instructions. I've got a ToodleDo acct on my Mac (which I've never used, but set up just to transfer data to full version), went into my phone's settings per instructions on your help board, but cannot find anything labelled "action" lists nor "sync". I'm using a 3GS running 3.0. What am I not seeing? Do I need a ToodleDo app on my phone, or to set up a ToodleDo email thingy of some sort on my phone? I did set up ToodleDo sync in Listmaker's settings. Got that far, but now stuck. Help!

While I'm here, let me sing your praises. I've just used Listmaker Lite to set up a cruise packing list that absolutely rocks. And it was SO easy. That's why I want to sync with ToodleDo... to move the list to the full version of Listmaker, which I've just bought. Loving your app!! BTW - can I save my packing list as a template for future cruises?

Thanks for your help (and putting up with user idiocy) and for giving us a killer app.

Please ignore my recent question. I've just opened Listmaker Lite and the full version, and DUH! They synced!

Ok, I'm an idiot... I warned you. Thanks anyway.

I still love the app!

I see the screen shot in the iTunes store - with a couple of lists shown at the top of the screen and then the To Do list shown in detail. Basically this view appears to show all lists and then the one that you are working on at the time in detail. How do I get that view? I have really tried playing with this and reading the instructions...

Those screenshots are examples of what you can do with Listmaker, but Listmaker does not ship with those lists. You will need to create any lists you require manually.

The opening screen can contain only lists. You can create a new list by tapping the "plus" button at the bottom of the screen. Once you have created a list, you can view its contents by tapping the list.

When you create a new list, it will initially be empty. So when you tap it to view its contents, an empty list will be displayed. You can populate your lists by again tapping the "plus" button at the top of the screen. As the screenshot you referred to illustrates, lists can contain list items (tasks), sublists, or a combination of the two. The screenshot you asked about contains both list items and sublists. When you tap the plus button you will be prompted to choose whether you want to create a new list item or a new list (sublist). By creating list items and sublists, you can build any type of list you desire.

I hope this has helped you out. If anything remains unclear, please post a follow-up and I'll do my best to clear things up.

Thanks - I didn't realize that the view on the iTunes page was a sub-list. It appears from the screen shot that you can have one list open and that the other lists are displayed - this does not appear to be the case from your explanation. I don't think I would have spent the $5 on this app had I known that. Perhaps I still don't understand this.

Are you saying that when you're viewing the contents of a list, you want all other lists to be visible whether or not they are a sublist of the currently viewed list?

Yes - as that is what appeared to be possible from the screen shot. I find it very inconvenient to jump around from screen to screen. I'll just find another app that better suits my preferences.
