Toodledo Sync Broken With Latest Update?

I've made no progress on this. Frankly, I'm still not sure what's going on, and I can't reproduce the problem as I understand it. Are you getting a particular error popping up? Or is it just silently failing? Anything you can tell me about the symptoms of the problems would be helpful.

Whatever you do, don't try syncing to a new toodledo account. I thought that maybe there might be some discrepancy in the tasks between the app and toodledo, so I created a new account and synced to it.

Doing this deleted all my contexts and folders which would have been survivable except that 75% of my tasks were "active" status, so they became inaccessible since their respective project was gone. Lucky I made a backup to itunes, but the only way to restore from itunes is a complete restore of all apps/settings/ and firmware. itunes is chugging away at that right now.... hopefully i get my tasks back (i had like 180!). I guess I will just have to disable synchronization for now. I can't afford to lose what I have added since synchronization kicked he bucket. hopefully the next update will fix this.

as far as symptoms:

-gives a pop up error indicating that their was a problem during sync and it will be disable during sesion
-syncing of contexts and folders appear to work
-setting password wrong gives different errors so it must succesfully be logging in

OK, I have a plan. I'm going to implement a new sync option: "Force Push". The Force Push option will not do a 2-way sync, but will instead take every Action Lists object and recreate it in Toodledo. This might clear up some of the sync problems that have been reported, and should at the very least allow users to sync to a new Toodledo account without losing projects & contexts. This would let us export the data and start over from scratch if need be.

I acknowledge that this is not a fix for the root cause of the problems that have been reported, but I can't reproduce them and therefore can't diagnose them. This new feature should, however, allow us to at least work around the problem with little risk of introducing new problems.

To give you an idea on the timeline, I expect this new feature to take about a week to complete and several days for Apple to approve the resulting update.

Here is the specific error I get when I start Action Lists:

Synchronization Error

There was an error in connecting to
Toodledo. Syncronization will be
Disabled during this session.

[OK]

It appears about 1.5-2 seconds after hitting the Action Lists button to start the app.

I decided to try to the fix suggested by other users of deleting the app and reinstalling, even though I would loose my sub-folder organization.

I did it, and it worked like a charm to fix the problem. No more sync issues. It really wasn't that much trouble to re-organize my folders, and it is SO nice to have Action Lists back in full force!

Thanks for a great product!

I'm glad that worked for you, but obviously that shouldn't be necessary. I'm testing the fix now, and plan to release in the next couple days.

FYI, I have submitted version 2.3.3 of Action Lists to the App Store for approval. This version includes some bug fixes to the Toodledo sync code, and fixes the bug that deleted projects and contexts when syncing to a new Toodledo account. I decided not to put in a new "Force Push" option, but changing accounts will cause all Action Lists objects to be pushed to Toodledo, and all Toodledo objects to be pulled to Action Lists. This should accomplish the same goal.
